Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Golden State Warriors in NBA playoffs Game 2

Copyright Source: Thu, May 8, 2025

In Game 2 of their series with the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Golden State Warriors lost 117-93 without him and appeared completely lost, if not incompetent, at times.

With a 1-1 tie, the series will continue on Saturday in San Francisco for Game 3, and no, Curry will not be returning for that game either. Since he will most likely be sidelined until at least Game 5, the Warriors will need to win at least one of the following three games to have a chance of being in the series when Curry returns.

If the rumoured "Jimmy Buckets" figure ever shows up, then it might be possible. Jimmy Butler continued his "connector" performance in Game 2, making only nine attempts in the first three quarters despite the Warriors' desperate need for him to step up his scoring game (or at least attempt to) without Steph Curry.

On Saturday, Game 3 will take place in the Bay Area. As he heals from a strained hamstring, the Warriors are anticipated to be without Stephen Curry for that game; he will be re-evaluated following Game 4.

The Timberwolves' main cause for worry occurred in the second quarter, when Trayce Jackson-Davis trod on Anthony Edwards' damaged ankle, causing him to fall.

Edwards left the game then but returned for the second half and kept playing. Despite a bad night in shot selection and ball protection, he scored 20 points on 6-of-13 shooting with nine assists.

Julius Randle topped the Timberwolves with 24 points and 11 assists. When Edwards was absent, he was particularly remarkable. From the bench, Naz Reid contributed 11 points and Nickeil Alexander-Walker 20, breaking out of his shooting slump.

Maybe it was because Curry was gone or the Warriors had already won on the road, but in any event, they fell short of expectations. That was mainly because of Minnesota's strong defense.

Leading the Warriors with 18 points (8-of-11 shooting), Jonathan Kuminga received more playing time. Buddy Hield shot 5-of-14 for 15 points while Jaden McDaniels did a fantastic job keeping Jimmy Butler's scoring to 17.
