How to make Granola Bars at home?

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (almonds, walnuts, pecans—your choice)
  • 1/2 cup honey or pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter or coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup dried fruit (such as cranberries, raisins, or chopped dates)
  • 1/4–1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)

Granola BarsStep-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare Your Pan

Line an 8x8 or 9x9-inch square baking dish with parchment paper, letting the paper hang over the sides for easy removal later.

2. Toast Oats and Nuts (Optional but Recommended)

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the oats and chopped nuts on a baking sheet and toast them for 10 to 12 minutes until slightly golden and fragrant. Let them cool slightly.

3. Make the Syrup Binder

In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the honey (or maple syrup), butter, and brown sugar. Stir occasionally until everything is melted and starts to bubble. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.

4. Combine Ingredients

In a large bowl, mix the toasted oats and nuts with the dried fruit. Pour the warm syrup mixture over everything and stir until fully coated. Let the mixture cool for a few minutes before adding chocolate chips to prevent melting.

5. Press Firmly into the Pan

Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. Use a spatula, wax paper, or the bottom of a glass to press it down very firmly and evenly. This step is key for solid bars that hold together well.

6. Chill and Set

Refrigerate the pan for at least 2 hours, or until the bars are firm enough to cut.

7. Cut and Store

Lift the block out using the parchment paper and slice into bars or squares. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or refrigerate for up to two weeks.
